Nancy Shapiro Fine Art

Portarit of Nancy in her studio

I am fascinated with creating three-dimensional objects, using a variety of materials, for both
commercial package design and for my fine art. The commercial aspect for my package design
business requires a practical solution, which is directed by the precise marketing needs of the client.

When working in the area of fine art, the freedom from this constraint allows me to experiment
extensively. I am exploring the relationship of interior to exterior space, balance and stability, to
create sculpture as well as applying this theory to my two-dimensional art. During the past few years
I have explored working with Italian poplar plywood, leather, and a variety of papers.

Nancy Shapiro balances parallel careers as a fine artist and graphic designer. Born in Brooklyn, NY
she now lives and works in New York, NY and divides her time between New York and The Napa
Valley, CA. After receiving her BFA from Boston University, she returned to New York City to
pursue a career in graphic design and established Nancy Shapiro Design Consultants, Inc., a firm
specializing in package and graphic design.

Nancy continued with fine art studies by attending courses at The Brooklyn Museum School, The
International Center of Photography, School of Visual Arts, and currently at the National Academy
School, New York. Her sculpture, paintings, and collages can be found in public and private art
collections in the United States and abroad; her art has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions
worldwide, including National Academy Museum, New York, NY, Sonia Gechtoff Gallery, New York,
NY, Donna Seager Gallery, San Rafael, CA, Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, Biennial 2009, Sonoma,
CA, Miner Family Vineyard, Napa, CA.
